Small Whirl

 By Thom

Taken from the poetry book "Every Moment Precious"

Carrier Pigeon  of poetry seeds dropped

into the hands of smiling eyes

"she is my neighbor! years ago"

when puppeteer, I painted her puppets.

Her husband was lecturer

is he still working? I remember

he was the most encouraging person

I imagine he is still making art. This was all the 60's of course

How are they both?

and what am I to say but praise

the art that sings your poetic names.

For John Hawk

By Thom

Taken from the poetry book"Every Moment Precious"

Fires always burn, Soshune, Ute

a warrior who took women

the way he drank fire

water. Passion and yell

as he swoped into the circles

breaking silence like the dogs

who howls all night  just because.

Now he is tame, quiet, working

Fires simmer in a pipe, At home, domestic

His new mother soothes and reassures him

all the wars will be forgiven

He can rest at home now

write a poem when the pain returns

like fire in his veins. He cannot beleive

what he sees screams

like people on fire, fired at., all fires burning

in him and all smoke in the world

will not obliterate the flame.

Warm, Wilde, Watching

Withdrawel is Not a Method

By Thom

Taken from the poetry book"Every Moment Precious"

It has never worked

while recluses in caves meditate

wars rage outside

better to step into the coffee cafe

where the buzz of conversation is in the air

remediates any fear of aloneness or crowds

by a welcoming link a poem in the air

(We are all less apart than together

cool becomes cold in loneliness weather

and choice means being part not apart when we

seek out others for human company

Chemicles alone simply over cause

The care is to use your human voice

Your human choice. Your desire to link

To step up to the brink and to fly

into the loving eyes of others

who also must choose wiether to accept or deny

You will only ever know

when you come out and look into their loving eyes.
